Ganondagan: Home of the Senecas at Ganondagan State Historic Site
Ganondagan sits atop a hill that once was a 17th century Seneca Village. Journey back in time and visit the reconstructed Bark Longhouse
and see how the Senecas lived on a daily basis.
Learn about the Mother of Nations and why the message of the Peacmaker is so important. Walk the grounds and learn the history of the Denonville attack from signs on the Trail of Peace. Learn the importance of the plantworld as it continues to be used for foods, medicines and tools on the Earth Is Our Mother Trail.
Ganondagan is part of the Finger Lakes Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. It is the only site dedicated to a Native American theme and staffed by Native Americans. The Friends of Ganondagan is a private non-for-profit support organization that helps fund special programming on the site and promotes the education of Seneca history as well as contemporary views to the public.
Group rates are available by calling ahead for a reservation. A tour program is 1 1/2 hours long and contains a visit to the Bark Longhouse and a choice of one of the following activities:
Storytelling session, Interpretive walk on the Trail of Peace, Interpretive walk on the Earth is Our Mother Trail, playing (2) Native American Games or an orientation in the Visitor Center that includes our House of Peace video.
A 50% deposit is required to hold your tour booking.
Season begins May lst and ends October 31st, the Visitor Center hours are 9 - 5 pm Tuesday thru Sunday. Our Bark Longhouse is open 10AM - 4:30pm daily.
